Treat head lice with coconut oil

Coconut oil has been used to treat hair and scalp conditions for centuries. Rich in saturated fatty acids (capric acids / lauric acids) the oil contains antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties and is both antioxidant and soothing making it an excellent conditioner.

As a natural oil it does not require the addition of synthetic ingredients to produce results. Massaging coconut oil onto the scalp provides relief from dandruff, flaky or itchy scalp, lice and their eggs.

Regular treatment conditions even the driest of scalps and leaves your hair soft, shiny and healthy. It also helps re-growth and strengthens weak hair.

Treating head lice
Head lice is a common problem and one most parents face at some point, but the available treatments often contain harmful chemicals such as permethrin - possibly carcinogenic - and malathion which is known to cause irritations. To avoid using anything chemically laced or synthetic on your child, try coconut oil - an ancient means of ridding head lice
  • Massage a small amount of coconut oil into the scalp and coat the hair
  • Comb the hair (use a louse detection comb) to remove as many lice as possible
  • Pull the comb finely through the hair from follicle to end
  • Rinse the comb and repeat combing action
  • Shampoo the hair with a paraben free product
  • Dry the hair then massage in some coconut oil and cover with a shower cap
  • Leave for as long as possible - overnight is ideal
  • Comb through and remove any dead lice
  • Rub some shampoo into your dry hair to lift the oil (dry not wet hair helps remove the oil)
  • Wash as normal

Because coconut oil is completely natural you can repeat this process twice a week or as needed.
